Kassandra

Being
a regular traveler to the Greek Islands on approaching the
mainland
coast by by air I was surprised by the vast, flat, rich fertile plains that
produce Cotton, Rice and Tobacco. The hills and mountains being on the
distant horizon
With
its three peninsulas snaking out into the Aegean sea the Halkidiki
region of Northern Greece is a beautiful area to visit, Stunning
coastlines that are sometimes rugged, but mostly steeply wooded hills covered
with richly scented Pine mixed with Cypress and Olive trees that
slope down to narrow, almost white sandy beaches that stretch unbroken for
miles. Crystal clear warm waters that display so many different shades of
turquoise and blue are so inviting it is impossible to resist
wading in.

Kassandra
Peninsula
I stayed just outside Kriopigi. This gave me the opportunity to walk through
the solitude of the Olive groves and wooded slopes of the countryside then
down to the beaches that seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see. I spent
many happy hours walking the shores and soaking up the welcome sunshine and of
course taking regular stops at the local Tavernas, The old village of
Kriopigi is hidden a few meters from the busy coastal main road and
although it is quiet during the day it comes alive at night when visitors
and locals alike take time to sit, eat, drink and chat in the balmy evening
warmth on the Vine covered terraces.
Kassandra Palace
Hotel
My
Hotel the Kassandra Palace was excellent and provided all day and all
evening entertainment along with fine food and drink served by helpful staff.
With its beautiful gardens and facilities it would have been possible to have
enjoyed a good holiday without leaving the Hotel
