Rhodes/Pefkos

My 4 hour Journey to Rhodes
started from my local Airport on a cool, cloudy
UK
June evening the temperature being around 11 degrees C. On arrival at Rhodes
Airport at around 2a.m local time the temperature was around 28 C. The
difference was striking. Being a regular traveller to Greece I've learned not to
expect to get away from airports quickly but this time was exceptional. With the
arrival
of
6 UK aircraft in quick succession the baggage handling system couldn't cope and
it was almost 2 hours before I found my luggage. Added to this delay was a
further 30 minutes waiting for others to collect their luggage before the
transfer coach set off on the 1 hour journey to resort Pefkos on the eastern
side of the Island, dropping off travellers at various other resorts on the way.
The journey was made in darkness and false dawn was
just about
beginning
when I finally checked in to my hotel and fell into bed after what had been a
long, long tiring day. ALL this was forgotten as soon as I opened
the curtains . stepped out onto the balcony and saw the absolutely cloudless
clear blue skies and felt the heat of the sun that had already brought the
early morning temperatures into the high 30s C. . Coupled with the sight of
mountains and the tree covered slopes that go down to the crystal clear waters
of the Mediterranean. I knew the journey was worth it.
The PEFKOS BEACH HOTEL

The hotel is very good. and as
usual in Greece all the staff from the receptionists to the cleaners are
friendly and helpful and speak better English than I do Greek.
Being
a relatively
new hotel the accommodation is still in good order and includes air
conditioning and a fridge, both of which are available at a reasonable
additional charge and well worth investing in when the night temperatures can
still be in the 30 degrees C. and the daytime temperature can exceed 41 degrees
C. Although there were a couple of power
cuts
the hotel does have its own emergency generator. It is worth bearing in
mind that the Pefkos Beach Hotel is set just off the main road on a steep
hillside and consequently, being mixture of Rooms, Studios & Self Catering
Apartments covering a large area there are many steps, ramps and roads to
be negotiated to get around the site. The bathing pool and sun lounge area is
adequate and the poolside dining
area
opens at 8 am
and offers a good selection of food and drinks ranging from Continental to
full English breakfasts and a variety of food is served until late
afternoon after which it becomes a bar/cocktail bar with the usual television
pool tables etc. . It is within easy reach of main Pefkos beach and
I very much enjoyed my stay there and would certainly use it again.
I hope that this Album
gives some idea of the layout of the Pefkos Beach Hotel
